About This Service

Paid for Advice. Not for Equipment Sold.

Clearstance is a fee-only, remote-first independent water treatment advisory for homeowners. There is no affiliation with equipment manufacturers, dealers, or laboratory services. The only financial relationship is with you, the client.

"I am paid for advice, not for equipment sold."

Why Independence Matters

The water treatment industry in the United States is largely dealer-driven. Dealers earn their income from equipment sales — which means the economic incentive is to sell equipment, and to sell more of it than a situation may require.

This is not a condemnation of dealers. Most provide honest service. But structure creates incentive, and incentive shapes judgment — even when the judgment is honest. When a dealer reviews your water test, their conclusion is inevitably shaped, even slightly, by what they sell.

Clearstance has no equipment to sell, no dealer relationships to maintain, and no referral fees to collect. The advisor's only financial stake in your case is the flat fee you paid. That is what "independent" means here.

Who This Service Is For

Clearstance serves homeowners who want an informed second opinion before making a significant financial decision about water treatment. Common situations include:

  • You have received a treatment proposal and want to know whether it is appropriate, correctly sized, and fairly priced
  • You have received conflicting recommendations from multiple dealers
  • You have private well water and want to understand what your test results actually mean
  • You are purchasing a home with a private well and want an independent assessment of the water situation
  • You have existing treatment equipment that is not performing as expected
  • You have a specific water quality problem — iron, hardness, odor, sediment, taste, staining, corrosion — and want to understand your options
  • You are uncertain whether additional laboratory testing is warranted

What the Service Is Not

Clearstance provides independent remote advisory review based on information submitted by the client. It is important to understand what this service does not do:

  • Does not perform laboratory testing of any kind
  • Does not certify that drinking water is safe to consume
  • Does not provide medical advice or diagnose health conditions related to water quality
  • Does not provide engineering certification or stamped engineering drawings
  • Does not certify plumbing, electrical, or code compliance for any equipment
  • May recommend additional certified laboratory testing where existing data is insufficient
  • May recommend local or on-site evaluation where remote review cannot adequately address the situation

When additional testing or local evaluation is recommended, that recommendation is itself a valuable conclusion — it tells you what you do and do not yet know, and what to do next.

The Evidence Grade

Every written report carries an evidence grade assigned by the advisor:

GREEN

Sufficient evidence for a confident strategy. The report provides a clear recommendation.

YELLOW

The available data supports a partial assessment but additional testing or information is needed for a complete recommendation. The report explains what is missing and why.

RED

The situation requires on-site assessment, a licensed specialist, or a local authority that remote review cannot substitute. The report explains the limitation and the next step.

A YELLOW or RED grade is a valid, complete, paid review. It tells you what you actually need to know — including what you don't yet know and why.
